At A#Studio we welcome our youngest students with open arms! Traditional private piano lessons are designed to meet the educational and physical development of students ages 6+. However there is no reason for 3-5 year old’s not to begin piano, they just need a curriculum designed to specifically meet their developmental levels. Studies have proven that the earlier a student begins piano lessons the more naturally the instrument will come to them. Additionally, it has been shown that beginning piano lessons between the ages of 3 and 6 has a powerful effect on the brain's development and, in short, “turbo-charges” the brain.
The very youngest of students begin meeting their WunderKeys friends in The WunderKeys Piano for Preschoolers books. These books encourage exploration of the piano in ways that are accessible and appropriate for this age group. The WunderKeys books take young children (ages 3 to 5) on a magical journey where they acquire the piano skills, keyboard awareness, and rhythmic understanding needed for a successful future at the piano. All lessons are geared toward having young children understand everything they will need to know before learning to read notated music.
Once students have graduated from the Preschool books it is time to move onto WunderKeys Primer. The Primer books are jam-packed with age-appropriate piano pieces, off-the-bench activities, and game-based learning, WunderKeys Primer Piano Book 1 reinforces keyboard awareness and early note reading in an environment carefully crafted to meet the physical capabilities of young piano students. The book’s engaging illustrations, hilarious dialogue, and step-by-step scaffolding approach combine to create a resource that piano teachers, piano parents, and piano students have been waiting for.
In WunderKeys Primer Piano Book 1, students will gain an understanding of the keyboard, read rhythmic notation and develop aural awareness, explore correct piano posture and hand shape, learn the musical alphabet, identify notes on treble and bass staves, play pieces accessible to small hands, and explore dynamics and time signatures.
As with Traditional Lessons, Preschool Students are required to have an instrument for at-home practice.
